Tasting notes
Very intense nose, mature but still compacted. This wine has a bit of everything: finesse, earthy aromas, ripe blackcurrant and liquorice. Expressive and well structured, with delicious talc-like tannins that will still mellow. I particularly liked it. (FC)

The superb, backward 1994 Clos Dofi requires 3-5 years of cellaring. The color is a dense saturated purple, and the nose offers up black currant, raspberry, and kirsch aromas intermixed with vanillin and minerals. Tannic and medium-bodied, with exquisite ripeness and overall equilibrium, this powerful wine should be at its best between 2002-2016. Importer: The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel. (800) 999-4342.

Saturated bright ruby. Superripe aromas of black raspberry, chocolate, maple syrup, violet and menthol; this reminded me of a topnotch 1990 St. Estèphe. Very rich and thick; almost painful flavor intensity today. Deep and mouthfilling; voluptuous, layered and sweet. Spectacularly ripe, very long finish features dusty tannins. Not quite as backward as the '95. Hard to spit.
