The 1914 Lafite-Rothschild is a vintage that I have not tasted before. It is a little anonymous on the nose. Vestiges of red fruit and a touch of chlorine and mint indicate that it comes from Pauillac or its environs. The palate is well-balanced and draws me towards a prestigious estate. The wine is underpinned by high acidity. It's rustic and a bit austere on the finish. I wondered how long this might have been spent in barrel since the war was raging. A touch of sour cherry and tobacco appear on the finish. It's not bad, considering its age and vintage. Tasted blind at Olivier Bernard's "4" dinner.
