Tasting notes
Pure, scent. Classic Sangiovese nose. Very pure and racy and well defined. Rich and medicinal but in a good way. Only just drinkable and no hurry. No short-changing of quality here. (JR)

The 2007 Chianti Classico is fresh and perfumed as it bursts into the palate in a generous, silky expression of Sangiovese. This is an especially open vintage for the Chianti Classico that should drink well upon release. The balance, harmony and softness are all commendable. This is a fabulous effort from Fontodi.

Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. This is another set of beautiful wines from Fontodi and proprietor Giovanni Manetti. Fontodi’s 2007s have slightly lower acidities than the firmer 2006s, which makes them a touch more approachable and forward at this stage. That said, relative to most 2007 Tuscan reds, these are powerful, rich wines (Flaccianello in particular) that will benefit from some additional time in bottle. A maniacal attention to detail in both the vineyards and cellar sets Fontodi apart as one of Italy’s most inspired producers. Importer: Vinifera Imports, Ronkonkoma, NY; tel. (631) 467-5907
100% Sangiovese. Oenologist Giovanni Manetti. Medium-deep ruby. Subdued and understated. Same on the palate, seems still very youthful. Extremely well balanced with invigorating acidity, coating tannins and subdued but long finish. This needs more time. (WS)
