Very, very deep. Almost black! Very grown-up, cru classé type. All new oak, but very high quality. Lively. A little jagged on the finish, but very ambitious. (JR)

An impeccably run Medoc estate making wines that would be considered of classified-growth quality by many observers, Rollan de By's 2001 shows sweet, herb-tinged, tobacco-infused black currant and cherry fruit, medium body, good texture, and ripe tannin. It should drink well for 7-8 years.
