Still ruby/plum-hued with minimal lightening, the 2010 Château Sansonnet (85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc aged in 70% new oak) offers a terrific nose of darker berries, leafy tobacco, and truffly earth, with a kiss of violet and cedar nuances. It's concentrated, medium to full-bodied, with a beautifully layered mouthfeel and ripe tannins. This brilliant 2010 has another 15 years of prime drinking ahead. Drink 2025-2038.

(15% alcohol; an 85/15 blend of merlot and cabernet franc): Good ruby-red. Musky, reduced aromas of blackberry, cassis leaf, coffee, leather and earth. Sweet, seamless and fairly full but very reduced today, with the fruit in the background; opened with air to show enticing sweetness. Finishes with nutty oak and a fine dusting of sweet tannins.

From very sandy soils east of St.-Emilion, this 2010 also has a big, ball-busting level of alcohol. It offers up loads of black cherry fruit, some underbrush and loamy soil undertones, sweet tannin and adequate acidity in its forward, evolved personality. This is a stylish, more feminine St.-Emilion meant for early consumption over the next decade or more. This is a property on the rise in quality. Yields selected for the final blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc were essentially,16 hectoliters per hectare, which is virtually nothing, so only 1,000 cases were made.

Aromatic and only medium weight. Rather luscious fruit and a dancing wine. Nerveux. Lots of fine tannin here. (JR)
