Score 90/100 · Drink 2002-2012, Robert Parker, Apr 2001
An impressive, opaque ruby/purple-colored effort, the 1998 exhibits sweet aromatics of black fruits intermixed with spice box, vanilla, and jam. Opulent, muscular, thick, and full-bodied, with moderate tannin, and outstanding purity as well as symmetry, it will be at its finest between 2002-2012.

Black-ruby to the rim. Spicy aromas of blackberry, raspberry and dark chocolate. Lush and pliant, with juicy flavors similar to the aromas. Nicely delineated and fresh for this wine. Finishes with chewy tannins and good length. Rather heavily extracted, but appears to have the material to support it.
