The 2011 La Pointe has a savory, maybe slightly bretty bouquet that lacks the freshness of its peers, yet I find its animally nature quite appealing. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, dry and slightly astringent, white pepper and clove towards the finish. Not bad, though not exactly memorable. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Looks a bit paler and more evolved than most. Meaty nose and some ripe fruit on the palate. Quite vigorous with a beginning, middle and end to it but it could do with a little more fruit in the middle. A tad austere. (JR)

This is a strong effort from La Pointe, another estate that seems to be producing better and better wines. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2011 reveals a dense ruby/plum/purple color, a sweet perfume of black raspberries, black currants, licorice and subtle high quality oak, medium to full body, and an expansive, broad, pure texture. Drink this sleeper of the vintage over the next decade.

Rich, velvety, very powerful style. Smart, smooth, clean cut, modern. Just enough savoury, liquorice character to make it Bordeaux. Good. (RH)
