Following the thrilling excitement of the 1986 in magnum, this 75-cl bottle of 1985 falls back into the convention of mature champagne, with dried fruit and earthiness. However, it is more alert and alive than the 1988. Long, mature nose, but there's no autolytic character. Instead, this has the layers of dried citrus and apple that is less like champagne and more like the best appellations of the Côte de Beaune. (RH)

A classic, elegant Champagne that is beautifully balanced, complex in aroma and flavor, but still lively and youthful in texture. Hints of lime, fig, butter, nutmeg and vanilla combine for a complete taste experience. Harmonious and beguiling. Tasted 1995, winespectator.com, Drink now.
