These were the years where I struggled with the over-concentration in La Dominique, and tasting it at 15 years old underlines the progress that has been made at this property by the recent team. Exuberant in style, with grilled blueberries, fig and raspberries, sandalwood and incense. 50% new oak for ageing. Yannick Evenou director, arriving in 2009 and staying until 2015. 48hl/h yield.

Tawny-plum in colour, this is full of tobacco, tar and sweet black cherry fruits, with peppery spice on the finish. Enjoyable, tannins now softened, lacks some mid-palate depth for a classified estate in a good vintage - I would place it as a 2005 perhaps, a good quality vintage but more evolved than many 2009s. Harvest September 21 to October 12. Michel Rolland consultant, Yannick Evenou director, 48hl/h yield, 3.7ph. 70% new oak.

The 2009 Château La Dominique is a beauty, offering a ripe, plush, sexy, and full-bodied style that still has a terrific sense of purity and elegance. Notes of red and black currants, white truffle, lead pencil, and sous bois all emerge from this classic Saint-Emilion, which has ripe, sweet tannins, a great mid-palate, and the balance and class to continue evolving for another 10-15 years.
