The 2006 La Dominique replicates its performance from a couple of years ago. It has a simple but delineated bouquet with red fruit and a touch of Japanese seaweed that I noticed in previous bottles. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well judged acidity. It is a little dry in the second half, quite savoury and lactic/chocolaty towards the finish. Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.

Tasted at the château, the 2006 La Dominique has an attractive bouquet with notes of roasted herbs and cloves infusing the red berry fruit, and yes, just a hint of the Japanese nori that Robert Parker remarked upon in his note several years ago. The aromatics seem fully mature. The palate is medium-bodied with chunky ripe black fruit, grainy in texture, perhaps just a little rustic but at least it is fresh. There is just a touch of dryness entering on the ferrous finish, therefore I would be inclined to drink this over the next 8-10 years. Tasted May 2016.

Exceptionally dark crimson. Sweet, super-ripe nose. Porty and formless and then astringent but hollow in the middle. Far too confected. (JR)
