Tasting notes
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru is very high-toned and a little oaky on the nose, modern in style, though there is plenty of sweet, slightly confit red fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with a delicate medicinal opening. More blue fruit compared to its peers with firm tannins. The oak is just a tad overstated on the finish. This will need time, but it lacks a bit of charm and comes across a bit brazen. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Offering up aromas of raspberries, cherries, exotic spices, rose petals and dark chocolate, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts is medium to full-bodied, deep and tightly wound, with fine, chalky tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, sapid finish. This, too, will demand some patience.
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Petit Monts 1er Cru is fully de-stemmed and matured in 75% new oak. It has a very pure, floral bouquet of black cherries, cassis and crushed violet scents on the nose, becoming more and more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, sorbet-fresh from the start and culminating in an intense, almost vitamin-like finish. Excellent.
