The village 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges from Gouges is a beautiful wine that shows the warmer, sun-kissed style of the vintage nicely while still having plenty of crisp, almost crunchy fruit. Notes of red cherries, strawberries, and cranberries give way to more spice and hints of spring flowers with time in the glass, and it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, nicely integrated acidity, light tannins, and terrific overall balance. This is a lovely Village level wine that has impressive richness as well as length. It’s going to evolve nicely for 10-15 years.

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Village comes from eight different blocks instead of the usual nine, as the Les Crots has been bottled separately. It has a simple but effective bouquet of red cherries and cranberry jus aromas. The candied palate is well balanced, offering sappy red fruit, gentle grip and a lightly spiced finish. Fine.

Discreet wood serves as a relatively neutral backdrop for the fresh aromas of red currant and earth that are laced with plenty of sauvage character. The rich, mouth coating and sappy medium weight flavors possess fine volume while concluding in a nicely persistent finish that is, if not exactly refined, then certainly less rustic than usual.

The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village displays a somewhat high-toned bouquet of cedary red and black fruits and dark chocolate, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with velvety structuring tannins and a tangy core of fruit. It's acid-driven and middle-weight in style and it will drink well comparatively young.
