Ormes de Pez got struck by hail in 2022, reducing their yields significantly – down to around 30hl//ha. The wine is one of the most dark-fruited wines we tasted – firm and full of tightly packed blackcurrant and blackberry. There’s a savoury, ferrous edge to the fruit, and a furry tannic grip, with a redcurrant crunch that refreshes the finish, adding bite. Blend: 51% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot

The 2022 Ormes de Pez has an open and expressive bouquet with black cherries, liquorice and just a dab of dark chocolate, quite primal compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with a chewy, quite tannic entry. Solid and quite muscular in style, it lacks a bit of "flow" towards the finish. Time will soften it. Time is needed. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

The 2022 Ormes de Pez offers up an exotic, aromatic bouquet of sweet red fruit compote and flowers, followed by a medium-bodied palate with a rich, soft attack that segues into a somewhat tannic, ephemeral finish. It's a solid, modern-styled Saint-Estèphe.

The 2022 Château Ormes De Pez is based on 51% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Rocking levels of black cherries, red plums, spicy wood, and tobacco all emerge from this round, medium to full-bodied, voluptuous, sexy 2022 that's already hard to resist. It's going to have at least two decades of longevity.
