The 2005 Château Latour A Pomerol (88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc) offers up a mature bouquet of red and black currants, smoke tobacco, leather, truffly earth, and savory herbs as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's ripe, round, and seamless on the palate, with plenty of underlying tannins. This incredibly complex, layered, satisfying Pomerol is well worth seeking out, and while it's clearly in its prime drinking window, it should have no issues evolving for another 10-12 years or more.

The 2005 Latour à Pomerol is a knock-out. Fresh, beautifully perfumed and classy, the 2005 is so impressive. It's not the biggest or richest Pomerol out there, that is for sure. Readers will find a gracious, understated Pomerol loaded with red berry fruit perked by soaring floral notes and bright blood orange accents. The long, persistent finish is exceptionally fine.

Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. The 2005 Château Latour-à-Pomerol is no more, no less, than a very beautiful Pomerol that is only just beginning to flex its muscles. It has a divine nose of blackberry, bilberry, warm gravel and a sprig of wild mint all with very fine delineation. The palate is initially supple in the mouth, but watch out because there is real backbone and structure to this Pomerol. What I most admire is the lucidity of this wine. There is brightness, you could almost say a sense of gaiety, not a word I often attribute to this cru. It still needs to knit together on the finish but otherwise, expect greatness from this tour de force Pomerol in the future. Tasted December 2015.
