Drink 0-0, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2024

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Cuvée Duvault-Blochet 1er Cru was bottled, but was not presented in the 2021 vintage release tasting, as yields were prohibitively low. Readers should note the 2021 includes fruit from Petit Monts, which was not bottled separately in this vintage.

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Cuvée Duvault-Blochet 1er Cru was bottled on April 12, 2023. It has a very appealing bouquet, a mélange of cranberry, wild strawberry and a touch of potpourri emerging with a few swirls of the glass. The stems lend subtle, damp, loamy scents in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with pleasing sapidity on the entry that dovetails into a juicy mid-palate. There's just a tang of black pepper on the back palate, easing off the accelerator towards the open-knit finish. This will require just a few months in bottle, though it has the substance to age. Fine. 149 cases produced.

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cuvée Duvault-Blochet is mostly a blend of younger vine La Tâche, along with the domaine's holdings in Les Gaudichots and Petit Monts. It's deeper and fleshier than the Corton, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries and plums mingled with notions of baking spices, espresso roast and vanilla pod, followed by a full-bodied, layered and almost unctuously rich palate with a cool and vibrant core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, sapid finish. Its combination of concentration with a cooler vintage profile makes it especially appealing.
