Tasting notes
The 2016 Canon-la-Gaffelière has a broad, savoury, slightly meaty bouquet that is a little more voluptuous than the Canon. The palate is framed by supple and slightly furry tannins. Lovely depth here, sensual, with that acidity coming through on the finish, and a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent. NB The bottle at Farr's tasting showed less well and was not scored. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year-On tasting in London.

Mushrooms, tobacco, cedar and tilled earth on the nose. I really enjoy the palate of this wine. The fruit is expressive yet gently held in check by freshness and vibrancy on one side, and by precise tannins on the other. Exceptional quality. Incredible balance and persistence, with a delicate profile. Enjoyable now, but with a long life ahead. Drink or hold. 10 Years On retrospective.
55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted blind. Not much nose but lots of mass. And tannins are still much in evidence but there is a certain sleekness. Inky finish and good drive. (JR)
