Luciano Sandrone's 2003 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is just beginning to show the early signs of complexity in its bouquet, but it remains surprisingly bright for a wine of its age and the vintage. Dark red and blue fruit, licorice, mint and dried flowers meld together in a striking, gorgeous Barolo. The 2003 has lovely mid-palate pliancy and depth. The slightly firm tannins of the vintage remain, but they are nicely balanced just the same.

The 2003 Barolo Cannubi Boschis from Luciano Sandrone is gorgeous. Just starting to show the early signs of tertiary complexity, the 2003 graces the palate with dark red/blue fruit, licorice, mint and dried flowers. The 2003 isn’t going to get better from here, but it is absolutely stellar right now. This is a gorgeous showing.

Very rich and opulent. More juice than many 2003s, although slightly dry on the end. Pure pleasure! (JR)

2003 was the earliest harvest – the end of September although 2011, 2009, 2007 and 2004 were all hot and dry too and Nebbiolo tends to fare better than other Piemontese varieties. Bright crimson. Still quite a deep colour. Rich, sweet and flattering though still dry and punchy on the finish with marked acidity. Not the purest, most classical style but attention grabbing. Showy. But maybe this is the vintage? (JR)
