Tasting notes
The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is elegant, fresh and nuanced. Sweet spice, cherry, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco are all laced together in an attractive, mid-weight Cabernet that is an absolute pleasure to taste today. Silky tannins grace the mid-weight finish. This fruity Cabernet has aged quite well. Some of the power of To Kalon is missing, but the balance is impeccable. What a beautiful wine this is.

A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Cabernet Franc sourced entirely from the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is medium to deep garnet with a hint of purple. It gives vibrant black and blue fruits, herbs and earth with hints of meats and wood smoke with lavender and bay leaves nuances. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy with a solid core of muscular, youthful black fruits, finishing long and with an herbal lift. 240 cases of 750-milliliter bottles and 48 cases of 1.5-liter bottles were made.
The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is quite a bit different from previous vintages. The poor Cabernet Sauvignon set resulted in a higher percentage than normal of Cabernet Franc, which brings with it an exotic range of aromas and flavors. Tar, licorice and waves of dark fruit are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. This is going to be a fascinating wine to follow.
