Rosso's 2015 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is laced with essence of dried herbs, tobacco, smoke, licorice, leather and black cherry. There is plenty of Serralunga aromatic depth and muscle, but in a mid-weight style that will be approachable with minimal cellaring. It is another very pretty and nuanced wine from Davide Rosso.

Blend of six crus from village of Serralunga. Fermented in concrete with 25 days’ maceration and daily pumping over before being matured in custom-made French oak botti grandi of 50 hl (1,320 gallons). Pale ruby. Very pale rim. Nicely balanced and very sweet on palate entry and then tight and dry on the end. Really very flattering indeed for current drinking without prostituting the style of Barolo. This would make a great introduction to Barolo. Really vibrant, dry, grainy finish. Appetising. GV (JR)
Serralunga d’Alba. Cask samples. Sample 1 Almond and marasca cherry nose. Concentrated palate and just balanced by acidity. Ripe, long fruit with intense, finely built tannins. Sample 2 Perfumed raspberry. Monolithic fruit with beautiful polished tannins that become muscular on the finish. Sample 3 The most reluctant on the nose of the three. Compact and minerally and holding back. Tightly wound. Rich, gorgeous tapestry of tannins on the finish. (WS)
