Still youthful, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is a full-bodied, impressive 2007 that offers darker fruit, peppery herbs and a touch of scorched earth in its balanced, classic, focused style. It lacks the complexity of the top wines in the vintage, yet it is still outstanding, with lots to love, and will keep for another 7-8 years.

Chocolate, black cherry fruit. Sweet spices on the palate, but a burning inferno on the finish. Charming on the nose but not quite the finished article on the palate – simply too much alcohol. (RH)
Seemingly on a fast evolutionary track, the 2007 Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows the perfumed, complex profile of the vintage with loads of garrigue, spiced-cherries, ground pepper, and leather that give way to a medium to full-bodied, round, supple Châteauneuf-du-Pape that has sweet fruit, a soft, evolved texture, and notable balance and length. If it was not for the balance here, I’d recommend drinking up, yet given that everything is beautifully proportioned, I think it will evolve gracefully and continue to show well for upwards of 4-6 years.
Dark red. Cherry, fresh raspberry, garrigue and smoke on the nose. At once sweet and firm-edged, with fresh red berry and mineral flavors complicated by a note of licorice and framed by juicy acidity. Finishes with gentle tannins and good clarity. This could be drunk now.
