Tasting notes
From a 2019 base and disgorged in 2024, the NV Champagne Reserve Brut Rosé has a medium copper to salmon hue and is inviting and open on the nose, with aromas of crushed roses, nectarines, and strawberry marmalade. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate and is a pleasure to taste, with a pillowing mousse, a pithy stone-fruit texture, and a light, savory note of hazelnut on the finish. Drink over the coming 10 years. This year, Émilien Erard has been appointed as Cellar Master of Charles Heidsieck. The shift follows Elise Losfelt’s departure to return to her family estate in the Languedoc, Château de l’Engarran. Mr. Erard has been working at the estate since 2018, alongside both Elise Losfelt and, previously, Cyril Brun. Mrs. Losfelt’s tenure oversaw the 2023 and 2024 vintages at the house. The wines for this report were tasted at the estate in Reims with CEO Stephen Leroux and Émilien Erard.

Enticing nose of nectarines, citrus, red berries and summer flowers. Creamy and elegant on the generous palate with some red wine character forming the core. Long, very layered finish with just a hint of tannin adding emphasis. 90% of the cuvee is the same as the Brut Reserve with the rest made up of 5% pinot noir and 5% pinot meunier. Drink or hold.
36% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir, 28% Pinot Meunier. Base 2012. Nick Baker didn’t have any cheaper NV rosé champagnes! Tasted blind. Pale salmon pink. Dried-apricot aroma like a fine Condrieu! Nice bead and great balance of fruit and acidity. Hint of saltiness. Gorgeous! (JR)
36% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir, 28% Pinot Meunier. Dosage 11.2 g/l. Appreciably different flavour profile to their Brut Réserve, with proper red-fruit flavours and impressive autolysis. Delicious, although the premium on price makes the Brut Réserve look a much better buy at £15 less. (RH)
