Tasting notes
The spectacular 2000 Syrah Eddie’s Patch (made from extremely low yields) is almost primordial/gothic in its dense, broodingly backward personality. However, it exhibits extraordinarily rich, concentrated, blackberry, blueberry, charcoal, and smoky characteristics. This full-throttle, superb expression of Syrah takes no prisoners, and is not meant for those who enjoy restrained, subtle wines. It should hit its peak in 1-2 years, and last for 10-12. Tel. Full, bright medium ruby. Musky, varietally expressive aromas of raspberry, licorice, pepper, spices, gunflint and exotic hints of apricot and mango. Sweet, silky and concentrated, with lovely inner-mouth aromatic quality. A satisfyingly mouthfilling, suave syrah that finishes with lovely ripeness and sweet tannins. Here's a 2000 that shows thorough flavor development and terrific depth.
