Tasting notes
The knock-out 2001 Chardonnay La Carriere offers honeyed citrus, liquid mineral, floral, and exotic tropical fruit characteristics as well as admirable definition, texture, body, and richness. Although I suspect the acids are high, the wine is more concentrated than the 2000 with more depth as well as fruit. This brilliant effort should age nicely for 5-8 years. (Release date 4/03) Tel. Pale yellow. Pungent peach, pink grapefruit, chalk and spices on the nose. Soft, smooth, airy and very dry, with delicate notes of lime, wet stone and spices. A distinctly minerally style that calls to mind Puligny-Montrachet. This might have seemed almost too dry without its two grams-per-liter residual sugar. From a very low crop level under two tons per acre. This, too, seems considerably richer than the 2000 version.
