The 2002 Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge (325 cases) displays the same floral characteristics as the 2001 along with striking elegance. Although more superficial on the palate, without the depth and power of the 2001, it is still an elegant, complex beauty that should drink well for 5-6 years. P.S. (aged in 50% new and 50% once-used barrels) Good bright ruby-red. Sappy aromas of crushed raspberry, blueberry, minerals, violets, Oriental spices, soy sauce and sweet oak. Superrich, broad and dry, with penetrating, highly complex flavors of raspberry, wild strawberry, mint, violet, graphite and Earl Grey tea, along with some high-toned oak. The very long finish repeats the note of tea. More raspberry in character than the blacker 2001. This seems rounder and more delicate than the earlier vintage (it's 14.8% alcohol, vs. 15.1% for the '01), and will merit an even higher score if it can absorb more of its oak.
