One of the early vintages—the vineyard was planted in 1990, with the first wine from 1994—the 1996 Proprietary Red Wine is on a gentle downslope. Fully mature, marked by tobacco and cigar box notes, this medium to full-bodied wine is still silky in feel, but it has hints of ash and a certain lingering astringency on the finish. Drink up.

Dark red-ruby. Dusty, cedary aromas of currant, roasted plum, smoke and tobacco. Pliant and juicy in the mouth, with slightly autumnal redcurrant, tobacco and plum flavors. A drier-styled but rather sophisticated wine. Finishes with firm but even tannins and very good length.
