The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino wafts up with a pretty bouquet of sugar-dusted blackberries, violets and sweet smoke. This is soft-textured and round on the palate, with rose-tinged red fruits underscored by saline-minerals and hints of savory spice. The 2018 finishes with length and perfumed, as notes of licorice, black currants and a hint of sour citrus are framed by gently grippy tannins.

Mid ruby. Savoury and deep, just hinting at perfumed fruit, and with notes of exotic spice. Supple fruit with powdery tannins but lacks a little in depth and concentration on the finish. Still, an elegant wine. Ready now. (WS)
