Tasting notes
The 2017 Suisassi (100% Syrah) is a total knock-out. A burst of wild cherry, lavender, sage, mint, licorice and cracked black pepper makes a strong opening statement. Bold and dense, with real explosive energy, the 2017 has a lot to offer. There is not much subtlety though. The 2017 was fermented in a combination of terracotta, cask, 600-liter barrels, and open-top barriques. It spent 30-35 days on the skins, with longer macerations in the larger vessels and a bit less time in the smaller barrels. Aging was done in a mix of 22 and 300-liter barrels.

This is a wonderful syrah with superb density and, at the same time, finesse and a quality of tannin that is most impressive. Raspberries, dark berries and licorice with some violet aromas, following through to a full body with soft, creamy tannins. Superb texture. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
The 2017 Syrah Suisassi is a super Syrah in terms of density, concentration and richness. We're talking big richness here, even for the vintage, so much so that it's almost too much of a good thing. Some 30% of the fruit is sees whole-cluster fermentation. The wine ends up in barrique for 18 months. This grape is really meant for this kind of heat and concentration. It's a bomb.
