Tasting notes
Good medium red. Carnal aromas of crushed cherry and raspberry. Silky and aromatic in the mouth, but with plenty of structure and juicy lift to the superripe, nearly decadent red fruit flavors. Finishes very long, with excellent supporting structure for such a supple, fruit-driven wine. A real sentimental favorite on my trip.

Serralunga d'Alba. Medium concentrated, deep ruby. Initially very sweet and chocolatey. Sweet rapsberry jam palate, with attractively tactile, grainy tannin and acidity to keep the tension. Needs a bit of age to gain in complexity. (WS)
2015-2027.The 2007 Barolo Parafada is more of a muscular, fruit-driven wine than most of the estate's other Baroli. There is less in the way of aromatic expressiveness and a more over sense of body and richness on the palate. Layers of deep, muscular fruit flow effortlessly to the round, sensual and totally striking finish. The 2007 is the first Parafada to be aged entirely in cask since the late 1980s, which is finally allowing the vineyard's qualities to emerge with great clarity. This parcel, with vines that are now more than 60 years old, was purchased by Franco Massolino's father when he was just 16 years old – not old enough to legally sign the contract, but clearly wiser beyod his years.

Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. This is a fabulous set of Baroli from brothers Roberto and Franco Massolino. The wines capture the essence of the vintage – while not being excessively marked by the year – in the house’s classic, firm style. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are done in cement and the wines are aged exclusively in large, neutral casks. Importer: Domaine Select, New York, NY; tel. (212) 279-0799
