Tasting notes
Slightly straightforward, with solid aromas and flavors of currants, herbs, pepper and loads of tobacco, the Foxen 7200 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Grassini Vineyard is medium-bodied, balanced and has good overall richness. Enjoy it through 2020 or so. Drink 2014-2020. This was a classy, character filled lineup of wines by the folks at Foxen. Tel. (805) 937-4251; www.foxenvineyard.com

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Grassini Family Vineyard is another impeccable wine. Dark red cherries, blackberries, flowers, mint and licorice literally explode from the glass in an exuberant, full-bodied wine loaded with personality. It is fascinating to compare these two Happy Canyon Cabernets side by side. The Vogelzang is a bit more restrained, while the Grassini is all about opulence. The Grassini is also about 1% higher in alcohol. Foxen gave the 2010 22 months in French oak barrels, 75% new.
