Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Apr 2020

The 2010 Le Bon Pasteur is a little subdued on the nose compared to its peers (an observation made back in 2014 at the Southwold blind tasting.) Tobacco infused black fruit reluctantly emerge but I would like more intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and moderate weight. There is a nagging greenness towards the finish that I cannot ignore. I would like to try another bottle. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Bon Pasteur leaps from the glass with scents of blackberry compote, plum preserves and spiced blueberries plus hints of chocolate mint and pencil lead. Medium-bodied, the palate is taut, firm and chewy with plenty of expressive black and blue fruit layers on the long finish.

Tasted blind. Deep bricky garnet. A blast of sweet Merlot fruit on the nose. Firm, dry texture, thick and chewy and that sweetness comes back on the finish. (JH)

Some richness on the nose. Thick and relatively luscious. Tough ungainly finish. Sudden end. (JR)
