Tasting notes
Mid dark ruby. Mellow meat-and-two-veg nose. Definitely ready to drink, with fully evolved tannins. (JR)

Really quite developed in both colour and bouquet. Very fragrant and appetising. Lovely, whole, without a missed beat. Stereotypical classic claret balance but fine tannins tucked underneath. (JR)
A bit pale and dull. Straightforward, linear fruit. Well balanced if not the most vital or punchy. Good manners but quite forward. (JR)
Consistently open-knit, soft, and pleasant, but essentially one-dimensional and monochromatic, the 1995 Phelan-Segur offers enjoyable fruit in the nose, but it lacks the depth and richness of other top vintages of this well-placed St.-Estephe cru bourgeois. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005.
About the producer

With 70 hectares under vine, Ch. Phélan Ségur sits on the eastern side of Saint-Estèphe – neighbouring Montrose and Calon Ségur. Owned by Philippe van de Vyvere since 2017, its gravel soils produce typically firm wines.
