2015 Domaine des Roches Neuves Saumur-Champigny Les Memoires

The 2015 Saumur Champigny Les Mémoires opens with a deep, ripe and concentrated yet very delicate, pure and authentic nose of dark fruits (mainly cherries but also cassis) intertwined with floral (violets!), earthy and even crystalline aromas. Full-bodied, intense and concentrated on the palate and provided with fine tannins and a lot of mineral energy, this is an impressive Cabernet from a 0.7-hectare parcel with 110+-year-old, ungrafted vines on marl and silex soils. Fermented with 20% whole clusters in a 1,200-liter Stockinger foudre, where it was also aged until the bottling, this is a charming but highly energetic Cabernet with perfect ripeness.
