The 1996 Coutet has an elegant bouquet with refined honeysuckle, orange blossom and apricot scents, certainly delivering more presence and intensity than the previous vintage. The palate is well balanced with good vigor and fine concentration with tangy marmalade, quince and mango notes, fanning out with a degree of confidence on the finish. This is the best Coutet of the Nineties. Tasted from an ex-château bottle served at the estate.

Greenish gold. Clean, floral and friendly on the nose. Very appealing. Lots of clean pear juice flavour with good tang and energy on the finish. Very easy to like – pretty sweet but not heavy. Very long. (JR)
A cool, light-bodied wine with a greenish hue to its light gold color, this ripe, medium-bodied Barsac reveals pain grille notes along with fresh, citrusy tropical fruit, medium body, some sweetness, and a clean, pure finish. It is a good all-purpose Barsac to drink as an aperitif, with food, or after dinner with dessert. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2018.
About the producer
Classified as a First Growth in 1855, this Barsac property has a history stretching back to the 14th century. Today it has 38.5 hectares of vineyard, producing brilliant sweet wines cut by taut acidity. In certain years, it produces Cuvée Madame, pure botrytised Semillon from its oldest vines.
