The 2019 Kupfergrube GG is clear and intense on the flinty and fruity nose that reveals notes of crushed stones, orange zests, ripe and overripe Riesling berries and some minty notes. Lush and intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, crystalline and salty but also powerful and still somewhat massive Kupfergrube that needs some years to come back. The finish is very intense yet currently lacks a bit of finesse. It's not showing as well as it did the last time I tasted it, which is pretty normal. Now, this is difficult, currently unbalanced or giving a clumsy performance after the great 2020 and 2021. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022.

AP number 17 20. Rich, ripe, heady on the nose with a hint of talcum powder. Then massively tight, finely etched, electric fruit. Dry finish with lots of drama. Needs to settle down a little. (JR)
Minty nose with plenty of grapefruit zest and fresh herbs, this is seriously mineral, but also quite a sleek and austere wine. Either you’ll love the firm structure and long, almost bitter mineral finish, or you’ll reach for something else. Drink or hold.
