Score 92/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Aug 2011
This most recent bottle showed notably better compared to another one consumed in 2005 because while as I noted that this is not a particularly elegant Musigny (particularly by the ultra-refined standards of Mugnier), there is much better depth. A very ripe nose and now fully mature nose stops just short of surmaturité now evidences the first hints of sous-bois that gives way to exceptionally rich broad-shouldered flavors that are supported by relatively resolved and solidly ripe tannins, all wrapped in a balanced and lingering finish. This is impressively rich and dramatic Musigny, it's not in the same league as some of Mugnier's very best vintages. Multiple though not necessarily consistent notes.
