Tasting notes
Drink 2016, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2016

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle has a more botrytis-affected bouquet than Olivier Leflaive's own Les Pucelles this year, with white chocolate and praline tincturing the citrus fruit. I would have liked to see more definition here. The palate is taut on the entry with tangy Clementine and mandarin notes. The acidity is nicely judged and keeps everything clean and tidy, the finish is harmonious but missing the sophistication and breeding of this vineyard's top exponents. This is a frustrating wine given its exemplary showing from barrel. It may be enduring a dumb phase so I will seek to retaste at a later point. Tasted May 2016.
