Raw hazelnut, peony and thyme accent very ripe white peach and passion fruit on the nose. The palate is glossy and silken, with luscious fruitiness nicely counterpoised to nutty and herbal piquancy. Bright, zesty lime lends welcome juiciness and invigoration to a sappy, vibrantly persistent finish marked by impingements of thyme, smoky black tea and crystalline stone. For all of its aforementioned virtues, this bottling’s opulence and a hint of finishing heat leave me cautious in my prognostication of age-worthiness.

The 2018 Kirchenstück Riesling GG is deep, intense and aromatic on the oaky nose. Round and lush on the palate, this is an intense and charmingly, persistently long and salty-mineral Kirchenstück with an enormously complex and powerful finish. Tasted in Deidesheim, December 2019.
