The 2023 red from this Pessac estate is very pretty and light on its feet, with blackberry preserve and damson framed by dried violet and iris notes. Medium-bodied with 13.5% alcohol, this is impressively approachable and enjoyable already, the wine so vibrant and fresh with a clean, precise finish. Blend: 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot

Another beautiful wine in the vintage that I’d love to have in the cellar, the 2023 Château De Fieuzal offers cassis, spring flowers, graphite, and subtle leafy herbs as well as tobacco nuances on the nose. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and integrated acidity. The quality here continues to soar, and this is a beautiful, elegant wine that will keep for two decades. Drink 2026-2045.

The 2023 de Fieuzal is packed with black cherry, gravel, chocolate, menthol and a kiss of French oak. There's good depth and plenty of palate presence. I suppose this could use a touch more finesse, but there is nevertheless plenty to like.

The 2023 Château de Fieuzal is quite backward and sultry on the nose, just a touch of Wellington boot that infuses the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, a little muscular in style and missing the grace of the excellent and superior white de Fieuzal. Maybe it will mellow with bottle age?
