The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Speciale is stunning in its 20th year, offering ethereal aromas and a supple texture. It was matured for 23 months in French and American oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Medium garnet in color, its bouquet is expressive and mineral driven, with touches of dried rose petal and herbs, charcuterie and graphite, and it has maintained a core of dark berry fruit. The palate is fresh and soft, its core of fruit finely balanced by tertiary layers. 1,560 cases were made.

Full medium ruby. Redcurrant syrup, tobacco, mocha and chocolate on the aromatic, oaky nose. Fat, lush and sweet, with the richest texture of all of these red wines. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. This will not be bottled until August: Richard Arrowood uses the ripest lots with the best tannic structure for this reserve bottling-fruit that he feels will take 30+ months in barrel (35% new) without getting overly oaky.
