The 2014 Ghost Dog, Kata's second wine, is soft, succulent and open for business. Sweet red cherry, plum, spice and new leather all meld together in this forward, racy wine. Red cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and new leather are pushed forward, with a kick of brightness from the Petite that livens things up. Drink this racy, inviting wine over the next handful of years.

The inky colored 2014 Ghost Dog checks in as an even split of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah, and there’s a scant six barrels made. It’s unsurprisingly backward and masculine (that’s Petite Sirah for you), yet has considerable polish and elegance as well as classic black and blue fruits, spring flowers, damp earth and graphite. A sensational steak house red that has full-bodied richness, ripe, present tannin, and a great finish, it’s certainly approachable (and enjoyable) today, yet I suspect will keep for 15-20 years given the varieties.

The 2014 Ghost Dog, Kata's second wine, is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah from the Beckstoffer Bourn vineyard. Bright, finely sculpted and lifted, the 2014 captures all the elegance and finesse of the year. Raspberry jam, mint and rose petal are some of the many nuances that give the wine its personality. This is an impeccable, super-polished wine from David Beckstoffer.
