47-year-old vines in a small clos that produce 'a Chambolle-style wine in Gevrey' according to Simon Heresztyn-Mazzini. 50% whole bunches. 25% new oak. A whiff of woodsmoke, alongside scented red fruit. Quite firm, peppery tannins, with a spicy, scented finish.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Village comes from the parcel that lies behind the winery in the village itself and includes 50% whole bunch. It has a well-defined bouquet of red cherry, raspberry and hints of brown spices; a damp earthiness develops with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a leafy entry and very fresh in the mouth. There’s a liberal sprinkling of white pepper and bay leaf toward the natural, refined finish. A delicious wine, and one that I would probably broach in its youth.
