From all whole-cluster fermented grapes, the 2021 Syrah Coastview Vineyard Terraces is mouth-filling in granitic texture and barely ripe plum, given 20 months in neutral barrel to further the complex, tannic framework of the wine. Dried herb, garrigue, and gamey meat provide varietal context and interest. This is drinking nicely now and should do for another 7-10 years.

The well-rounded team at Big Basin performs exceptionally well with Syrah, as displayed in the 2021 Syrah Coastview Vineyard Terraces bottling. The nose here is a Syrah lover's dream, chock-full of luscious purple flowers, black fruit, sandalwood and flourishes of charcoal embers. The palate is medium-bodied but intensely concentrated, leading to a decadent yet lifted, expansive finish that continues to morph across the palate with incredible length. Sourced from Alban selection vines just 14 years old, this is a bottling to keep an eye on—a gorgeous expression of mountainous Central Coast Syrah.
Done with 100% whole clusters, the 2021 Syrah Coastview Vineyard Terraces is a structured, chiseled cherry bomb that marries all the savory intensity of the Gabilan Mountains with a beautiful base layer of voluptuous, liqueur-like dark cherry fruit. Exotic spices, lavender and cedar sizzle from the glass, propelled by measured acidity and a tense but forgiving tannin structure. This has all the pieces—just give it a year or two to settle down. Impressive.
