Tasting notes
Round Pond's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (Rutherford) is gorgeous. Supple, racy and super-expressive, the Estate is once again one of the very best Napa Valley Cabernets readers will find in its price range. Black cherry, chocolate, mocha, tobacco and leather add nuance, but it is the wine's balance and sense of harmony that really elevated the Estate. This is just a fabulous bottle of wine.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec and 1% Merlot. Deep purple-black in color, it has a nose of tar, earth and smoked meats over cassis and plums plus a hint of fried herbs. The palate is full-bodied and very savory with good concentration.
This blend of 83 per cent cabernet sauvignon with petit verdot, malbec and merlot, has a central offering of ripe blackberries and plums with hints of black truffle and chocolate. It delivers in approachable, fleshy and concentrated style. Drink or hold.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Rutherford packs a serious punch. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather and tobacco are all ample in the glass in a wine that speaks with power and assertiveness. This is an especially bombastic style. It will be interesting to see if time will help soften some of the contours.
