Tasting notes
Stunning ripeness and concentration, enormous depth of peach and apricot fruit and a lot of subtle herbal notes, too. A gigantic finish that doesn\'t want to let go of you. Decades of ageing potential.

Picked from their parcel at the forehead of the Pfaffenberg, staring directly down onto the Danube, this spent its entire pre-bottling life in tank (whence I tasted it) because the volume was too small to fill any available cask. Fresh grapefruit, white currant and lime are joined on the nose by stony, alkaline and saline mineral intimations. Hints of iodine add intrigue on a bright but polished and palpably extract-buffered palate. The finish here tugs on both the cheeks and the salivary glands. Expect this slightly austere but impressively concentrated, animated, minerally multifaceted Riesling to prove especially fascinating to follow.
The 2015 Steiner Riesling Ried Pfaffenberg Selection offers an intense and concentrated bouquet of ripe apples and crushed gneiss and granite stones. Full-bodied, piquant and elegant, with lots of salt and power, this is a tension-filled and firmly structured Riesling with a long and refreshing finish. Pretty closed, but with great aging potential.
