Barolo. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Undeniably attractive nose of new oak and deep red fruit. The palate is much more genuine, with grainy, chewy tannins supporting the red fruit that is layered and perfectly balanced by supple acidity. Complex, aromatic finish. Impressive. (WS)

The 2019 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is a potent, austere wine. Clean mineral notes and bright acids give the Terlo quite a bit of drive. Red-toned fruit, chalk, mint, white pepper, orange peel and dried herbs give this nervous, mid-weight Barolo a good deal of flavor complexity and overall nuance. It will be interesting to see how this ages.
