Tasting notes
Score 87-88/100 · Drink 2004-2010, Daniel Thomases, Wine Advocate, Jun 2003

The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino, a solid, dark garnet, with good fruit and spiciness on the nose, is medium-bodied but with much energy and continuity on the palate. On the finish, the plum and red currant fruit is very fresh. Drink: 2004-2010. This wine is superior to the 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, not reviewed, rather hard and tough, with some reduction on the nose. Poggio Antico is in the southwestern part of the zone, but rather high, and the style is rather elegant for this part of Montalcino Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900

Medium red. Aromas of cherry liqueur, currant and menthol. Supple and concentrated, with subtle, moderately sweet flavors of strawberry, redcurrant and licorice. Juicy acids give freshness and shape to this very young wine. Finishes firm and tangy, with nicely ripe tannins.
