Score 90/100 · Drink 2022-2025, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Dec 2022

Medium garnet, the 2018 Range 30 West has bright aromas of green bell pepper, jalapeño and cracked peppercorns with notes of leather, tobacco and dried red and black cherries. The palate is medium-bodied, soft and approachable with a balance of fruit and herbal character and hints of baking spice on the finish.

The 2018 Range 30 West is an attractive, mid-weight wine. Crushed flowers, sweet tobacco, cedar, pine and dried herbs give this mid-weight 64% Cabernet Franc and 36% Merlot quite a bit of aromatic, savory presence.

Looking at the Bordeaux releases from this estate, the 2018 Range 30 West checks in as 64% Cabernet Franc and 36% Merlot that comes from the McGinley and Vogelzang Vineyards. Aged 22 months in 57% new French oak, it has singular bouquet with lots of sappy green herbs as well as notes of cedar, white pepper, and red and black fruits. It’s a little green and wild, yet certainly well made. This medium-bodied, rounded, attractive Bordeaux blend should keep for 7-8 years.
