2014 Heritiers des Comtes Lafon - Macon Uchizy Les Maranges

(bottled in July; made from south-facing vines in a very sunny, hot spot on the first hill in from the Saône in the northern Mâconnais; the estate has blended vines planted in 1998 and in the 1960s since the 2011 vintage as Lafon and Gon like the freshness that the younger vines bring:): Bright lemon-yellow. Subtly complex aromas of lemon, pear, flowers, mint and a touch of redcurrant, as well as a light muscaty quality that comes from the older vines. Lovely citrussy wine with muscaty lift and a hint of youthful bitterness on the end. The old vines mature later than the young vines here, noted Gon. Not quite the length for an outstanding rating.
