Tasted blind. Smells rather dusty but on the palate it has real purity and directness. Just a bit lean. (JH)
The 2013 De Fieuzal has an open, quite sensual bouquet with scents of black cherry, wild strawberry and wet stone, an attractive floral aspect developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, succulent in the mouth with good acidity, polished with a smooth, harmonious finish. This is commendable for the vintage, even if it is just missing a little personality.
Smells riper than many – lemon and a hint of apricot. Some botrytis here, perhaps? Creamy texture, some apricot-kernel bitterness on the finish. Hard overall. (JH)
About the producer
Named after the Fieuzal family who owned this estate until 1851, today Ch. de Fieuzal is owned by the Quinns. Since their arrival in 2001, the Irish family has restored the property and built its reputation for quality.
