Score 94/100 · Drink 2022-2040, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2019

The 2015 Barolo Bussia is a wine of power, density and gravitas, all of which come through in its decidedly vertical feel and rather somber expression. A whole range of balsamic-infused notes wrap around a core of dark fruit as this potent Barolo shows off its distinctive personality. The 2015 needs time to be at its best, but it is unquestionably impressive, even in the very early going.

Monforte d’Alba. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Lifted and concentrated, but not entirely open. Strawberry and cherry with a peppery edge. Deep and concentrated on the palate. Impressive aromatic build-up on a powerfully tannic finish and yet this possesses great style. (WS)

Dried roses and fragrant spices, anise and fennel seed in particular, leading to blood orange and pomegranate. The palate has a very sleek core of fine but ripe tannins that carry red-berry flavors in smooth repose. Drink or hold.
